This is a collection of numbered posters in chronological order of birthdates and an accompanying book, depicting comedy icons in icon form. It’s following the current use and trend within the design and communication world, while there are fewer elements in creating the graphic icons, the chosen comedians had to have distinctive enough features or aspects to show them in this form for them to work and be recognisable, as well as them being at the top in their field and era.
The idea was that it had a double play on the word icon! At this current time iconography, infographics, app and web symbols have never been as popular as they are today; for communication, in literature, computing or just purely for fun, either way it has become part of our lives. The word icon which is used to describe something or someone of importance, a symbol of a particular thing, or a person who is successful, idolised or admired. This project depicts just that with a selection of icons from the comedy world, shown in icon form.
With a simplistic graphical approach I designed a series of clean and minimalistic set of posters, along with an accompanying book for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re in the design industry itself or you just have an interest or love for comedy.
The posters and to a greater extent the book, have been produced as design pieces in themselves, with the icon designs and the simple clean layouts, but it’s also an appealing and informative publication for the younger generations to learn from, or for anyone of interest to enjoy, smile, laugh or be inspired by, but more importantly to ensure their legacy lives on!
